In order to satisfy Tiffin's minimum blog requirmement for this course, I will take this section to answer some key questions, expound on things that I have learned, and provide my personal insights into the internship coursework here at Tiffin.
First, I must start by saying that I have never been a big believer in internsthips, in general. Working for an organization for free has just never sat well with me. However, as a recent article in the Huffington Post points out, studies do indicate that a college internship can increase the chances of landing a position in one's field of study by as much as 13%.
From what I've experienced thus far in my attempts to land a position in Sports Management, jobs are scarce and competition for them is fierce. To that effect, the ability to increase one chances of earning a paid position in Sports Management does seem to outweigh the initial opportunity costs of working for free. Of course, only time will tell if this is indeed the case.
